Everyone has issues when finding the right staff to employ in their salons. In fact, employees are the main issue that every salon will have.
Employing the wrong team members can determine your salon growth and your well-being. Let’s have a look at how you can avoid hiring the wrong team members.
One of the main problems that salon owners have when employing staff is only looking at skillset. Salon owners dream of staff with a large client base and following. They want someone with a great sales record who will bring in new clients. The problem with this is that we don’t look at the mindset and values of the people we are employing. This is such an important thing to look at when employing new team members.
In the past, we have employed several talented staff but all of a sudden, the team dynamic would change for the worst. There were a lot of negative vibes, the staff would start to question policies and the overall performance of the team was affected.
It took a while to realise that the problem wasn’t our managing skills but that we had employed the wrong people. We were employing staff that didn’t have the same core values as our salon.
I understand that when looking at employing staff with the same values as your salon, you may not always be employing the most talented staff. The difference is you can always train them to be a good hairdresser. You can’t train someone to have good values and morals.
I hope that you keep this in mind when you are next looking at employing new staff in your salon.
